Day Services COVID-19 Safety Plan

The Urban League of Rochester is committed to providing services safely during the COVID-19 crisis.

Our staff and partners are sincerely grateful that we have been able to provide services within the community over the past 5 months.

We are excited about the reopening of our Day Habilitation and Afterschool Respite programs, and our number one priority is to provide a safe environment for our participants. With guidance from the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), the Monroe County Health Department (MCHD), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), we have devised a safety plan for our programs.

Utilizing health and safety guidelines from OPWDD, MCHD, and the CDC, we are providing the following:

  • Health and wellness assessments are conducted on all employees, and participants daily, which includes required temperature checks.

  • Deep cleaning and sanitizing of our Day Services that includes cleaning all tables, workstations, meeting rooms, doorknobs, computers, and bathrooms. These areas are cleaned several times per day to ensure safety.

  • Signs will be displayed throughout the building and program area on social distancing, hand washing procedures, and proper use of PPE. Six-foot markers will also be marked throughout the program area.

  • Each area will be supplied with hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.

  • PPE supplies such as disposable mask, hand sanitizer, and gloves will be available for staff and participants.

  • Van transportation safety for Day Habilitation includes, cleaning and sanitizing before and after each ride, and all drivers and participants must wear masks. Drivers must conduct a health and wellness assessment and take the temperature of each person before they can ride on the van. Social distancing will be maintained, and the number of people allowed in the van will be monitored.

  • COVID-19 awareness training will be conducted with all participants we service as part of the reopening plan, including proper use of PPE and hand washing reminders throughout the day.

  • Staff or participants that test positive for COVID-19 will need to quarantine for 14 (fourteen) days in accordance with MCHD and CDC guidelines. A note from a primary care or medical staff must be provided to confirm a safe return to work or program.

  • OPWDD, MCHD, and Care Coordinators will be informed of participants who test positive for COVID-19 while also maintaining HIPPA.

We will continue to support participants in Community Habilitation services and offer in-person independent living services, as well as virtual parenting classes for our Parenting Outreach program.

The team at the Urban League of Rochester has worked together in planning the reopening of these programs. We will continue to offer services within our organization empowering the community and changing lives.
